A native of Dallas, John Loza has been a pre-eminent figure in Dallas politics and law for the past 20 years. John graduated with a B.A. in Government from Harvard University in 1985, and with a J.D. from Southern Methodist School of Law in 1988. In his nearly 26 years of law practice, John Loza has served in the fields of business litigation, with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and in private practice as a solo practitioner for the past 21 years. John has extensive trial experience.
At the age of 33, John was elected to represent District 2 on the Dallas City Council. John served for four consecutive terms – eight years – until he was term limited in 2005. As a City Councilman, John was named as chairman of both the Public Safety and Housing Committees. John was elected by his colleagues to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem in 2001, and as Mayor Pro Tem in 2003. John also served on the national board of directors of the Hispanic Elected Local Officials of the National League of Cities, and was a member of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials.
After leaving the City Council, John served for two years on the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board of Directors as a representative of the City of Dallas. In that capacity, John was a member of the Finance/Audit Committee and the Regional Transportation Council. John also served as a member of the 2011 City of Dallas Redistricting Committee. John also volunteers with a variety of local organizations.
