Valerie Carrillo has practiced school law for over fifteen years. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Ms. Carrillo previously worked for the firm. Prior to that, she served as in-house counsel for Dallas Independent School District for approximately ten years. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Carrillo was appointed by the City of Dallas as an Administrative Law Judge. Prior to rejoining the firm, Ms. Carrillo most recently served as the Chief Legal Counsel and General Counsel for the Fort Worth Independent School District for the last four years. During that time, Ms. Carrillo was voted by her peers as a Top Attorney in Education Law in Fort Worth in 2013 and 2014. Ms. Carrillo is licensed by the State Bar of Texas and has extensive experience advising school boards and administrative staff on various legal issues, including but not limited to employment issues, governance issues, open meetings issues, policies, contracts, and purchasing matters. In addition, Ms. Carrillo enjoys providing legal training to school administrators and board members.
